The scribe walked in the emporium and immediately, he could smell the scent of soot and iron wafting about in the air. He slid out the enchanted revolver from his bag and walked around to find a blacksmith that was free. While he wasn't particularly familiar with the usage of guns, having never gone through basic training, he was still issued a standard magical tool alongside his focus as part of his equipment. It unfortunately so happened to be this revolver.
"Surely someone would be capable of giving this old thing a tune up. I'm just worried they'd hammer out the runes enchanting it."

A short, blonde woman covered in soot and ash is currently working at one of the gunsmithing stations, fixing up a jammed firearm. She's wearing overalls with the top half tied around her waist, a tank top, and steel-toed boots. As soon as she finishes fixing it up, she hands it off to its owner, and turns to look at Xyrith. She doesn't say anything, but just makes a gesture for him to hand over the gun.
The scribe handed it over to the smith then crossed his arms as he leaned back on a post. "Nothing's wrong with it, I'm just having it maintained. Never been fired as far as I am aware. Thank you, and it's Xyrith by the way. Pleasure to meet you."
The man explained. Beyond using the magic stored within, the firearm remained completely unused. His clean white robes deeply contrasted the dirt and soot of the workshop, but that's to be expected.

He watched their work intently, studying how the firearm is disassembled and where each part went.

"I'm Siobhan." She responds to him, and gets to work on maintenance for his gun. She actually pays close attention to the runic symbols engraved on it, re-applying them and ensuring the enchantment won't fade away anytime soon. She's focused almost entirely on her work, paying little attention to Xyrith at the moment.Once she's finished with each disassembled part, she casts a spell and the whole thing re-assembles itself in under a minute. She then hands it back to Xyrith. "Here. Good as new."
He inspects the firearm, giving the chamber a quick spin and letting the sound of the ratchet ring out. Once he's seen that it's back to perfect condition, he smiles and nods, putting the weapon back in his bag. It appeared that his worries were quite misplaced, and that with this repair, it should still work pretty nicely in the field.
"So what do I owe you for this service, Ms. Siobhan?" The scribe asked politely, putting his hands on his waist. His spells have gotten more potent recently, but he'll always remember the usefulness of having a backup weapon by his side, and it's better to get on a craftsman's good side for future dealings.@giant_minior

"Oh, I don't take money. I'm just doing this to pass the time while I wait for my own things to be finished." She responds with a shrug.
"Spell runes on a weapon are a pretty smart idea, I have to admit. I may just craft some such instruments for myself. Or perhaps a staff - I'll see."
"Hmm—" He pondered for a moment, crossing his arms end resting his chin upon his hand.
"While it isn't quite useful against devils and demons, I do have this as well if you'd like to have a look for your own reference. I really don't take freebies; I'd rather provide an equal service. Say over dinner perhaps if you would be amenable to that?"
The mage takes out another magical instrument, a wand engraved with similar inscriptions, though it was clear that stored within was a different spell. Perhaps this would pique their interest even more, since he had recently gotten a penchant of collecting magical items with stored spells it semed.(edited)

"I see." She leans closer, inspecting the wand. "That's an interesting implement you've got there... And sure, I wouldn't mind dinner."
Siobhan briefly smiles, a little awkwardly.
"Though, from my point of view, neither of us owes anything to the other."

"If that's the case, then let's not owe each other anything."
Xyrith laughed softly and smiled back as he pockets the wand, letting it slip back into the folds of his robes.
"Shall we? I know a quiet diner that serves this amazing roast pork just a few blocks from here. At this time and day—I think it'll just be us there."
He held his hand out, offering to lead the artificer out of here.

"Sure thing-" Siobhan takes his hand, allowing Xyrith to lead the way out. Her expression still seems kind of awkward - she's clearly not really a people person.

He glanced at the emporium, then back at Siobhan. The place was packed, so he could only imagine being here day by day. Xyrith led them out and into the streets, heading for the quieter side of the avenue.
"You'll love it there then. It's manned by an old couple, so they don't get quite as many customers as the other taverns would."

He walks in silence, holding their hand tight. Through tight streets and quiet alleys, they pass through and eventually he stops in front of a small house. There was a sign that hung just above the windows, a simple carving of a fork and spoon. After knocking on the door twice, he opened it and entered with Siobhan in tow. The scent of herbs filled the air, sharply contrasting the ferrous odor the emporium exuded just a short while ago. Xyrith exchanged a few greetings to the old woman that manned the bar before leading them to their seats. Overall, one could assume that the eatery was simply converted from the couple's living space, which to Xyrith, just accentuated the experience in this humble establishment. After the woman hands the menu over to the two of them, Xyrith asks. "So, what do you think?"

She looks around the place curiously as she sits down. "I think it's a really cozy place."
She responds, simply. Her seat is across from him. Right now, she's still rather sweaty and a bit dirty with soot after her earlier work at the emporium. She takes out a napkin to at least wipe her face clean.
"And I think I'll take your suggestion to try their roast pork. Any recommendations for side dishes?"

"Hmm.. I'll try the beef stew. For the sides, the mashed potatoes are to die for, though you could also opt for the Khazdaran platter."
He thumbs through the menu, tapping on it as sparks of arcanic energy begin to erupt from his fingertips. It crackles, then softens into a series of fractals, washing over Siobhan, freshening them up. Xyrith tries to be subtle about it, but it was definitely a noticeable act.His attention turns toward the old woman, speaking his order before asking, "So how has Artorien been these days? Has he been well?"

Siobhan nods, and orders the roast pork and mashed potatoes for herself. She raises an eyebrow as Xyrith's magic washes over her, somewhat cleaning her up. "Ah, you can also do that... It works on clothes, but not skin."
She then simply observes his conversation with the old woman.
"Oh Art? He's finally gotten his honorable discharge. The poor boy lost an arm, but he and his wife are doing well." The old woman smiled as she took their order, with Xyrith opting for the platter and the stew.
"That's great to hear. Do tell them I said hello when they come over. It's been a while since I've had a proper chat with the two of them."
His smile was a bit somber at the news of the man's injury, but he was happy to hear that he's finally getting the time to rest. Xyrith seemed well acquainted with the old woman, and this Artorien they were speaking of.

Once the pleasantries were over, Xyrith looks over to them. Noticing their apparent awkwardness to the situation, he smiles and begins to apologize. He looks down and tilts his head at the device.

"Oh, um, I think you're fine, no need to apologize. This is a broken clockwork amulet; it has lost its magic, but it's still mechanically sound." She responds, showing Xyrith the internal gears and springs of the tiny device.
"I generally work with machinery and magic, as well as some other disciplines including chemistry and material science."(edited)
"Ah, interesting. Personally, I've dabbled in potion making in my spare time and a bit of weaving, but my preferred craft has always been calligraphy. Putting words, memories even— into physical form, there's just a strange sense of serenity to it."
He explained, though as he spoke his gaze was fixed upon the amulet. As he tried touching the inert amulet, his fingers brush over hers, quickly and awkwardly he pulls it back. Xyrith's face flushed red from the brief interaction. It was as if he hadn't been holding her hand through the streets just to get here. Silly guy.

"I see. Calligraphy is an art all of its own... though not one I've practiced, personally.
Siobhan nods. She holds out the amulet for him, now smiling shyly. "Here, do you want to take a closer look?"
He leaned forward on the table, brushing his curly bangs to the side so that he could see the mechanisms of the amulet much more clearly. Though he could likely learn how to create a similarly-functioning device with enough study, the craftsmanship of the amulet itself was substantially more impressive than anything he'd ever jerry-rigged.
"In terms of crafting as an art—which one's your favorite?" Xyrith looked up, eagerly awaiting the response.

She thinks for a few moments, tapping her chin. "Tough to say... But I think material science and alchemy. Specifically, when used for pyrotechnics... Fireworks can be beautiful in a way few other things can ever be, after all."
She leaves the amulet on the counter. "Aside from that, I've got a fondness for finely-made devices, like this clockwork amulet or the turrets I employ in a fight."
Xyrith leaned back on his chair, tilting his head as the food arrived one by one. The aroma of freshly cooked homemade food wafted in the air; mostly earthy with slight hints of sweetness simmered throughout. Xyrith took a sip of the stew, before breaking off a piece of bread to dip and eat.
"I wonder if such technologies can be implemented at a larger scale, maybe implement it on the walls our far out trenches. What do you think?"

"Probably, I imagine it would not be dissimilar to cannons. However, it's often more efficient to deploy artillery mages and similar."
Siobhan explains. "Turrets, when scaled up, are relatively easy to disable, while an artillery mage can take advantage of cover to avoid harm to oneself while blasting enemies unimpeded. Of course, turrets have the benefit that they don't need years of training before they can be deployed."
He nodded. With more turrets and less people on the battlefield, there'd be less potential casualties.
"It'd be good, if only we can get to that point technologically. In any case, we probably shouldn't be talking about such topics, instead let's enjoy the food. Go on, try the platter." Though he ordered it for himself, Xyrith offers up the Khazdaran platter, a mix of charred meat skewers, a relish made from local fruits mixed in with slaw, and some dark-colored flatbread.

"Sure thing, thank you." Siobhan takes a meat skewer and some relish, wraps them up with a bit of flatbread, and removes the actual skewer before eating the whole thing as essentially a sandwich. She smiles softly after biting into it and chewing for a bit.
"It's good!" She then tries a bit of the mashed potatoes, which she clearly also enjoys. "...Actually, thank you for showing me this place. It's perfect."
"You're most welcome. I don't get to go here much with company. It's usually been a place I've enjoyed on my own, so sharing it with others has been quite the experience for me as well."
Xyrith on the other hand took a spoonful of the stew, blowing the steam off of the pile of beef before putting it in his mouth. The tenderness of the meat made his cheeks flush red; his shoulders relax and generally put him into quite a better mood.

Siobhan moves on to trying her main dish too - the roast pork. She cuts small bites to pick up with a fork and eat, and she very obviously enjoys it.
"Mmm, enjoying good food with good company makes it even better, no?"
He nods, while he chews on a chunk of carrot, drinking some water before giving it all a proper swallow. Before he continued to speak, Xyrith took a cloth from the side and wiped his mouth clean.
"I agree, though as I've said before, I don't get the luxury of having good company often."
